PRODUCT USABILITY

The PUL – Product Usability Lab is a research centre for ergonomics and the usability of industrial products.

Aims:
The purpose of PUL is to promote and carry out research and training in user-centred design: increasingly specific user-requirements today call for a growing attention to the quality of products on the part of designers and companies.
The ergonomic approach to designing offers methodological and interpretational tools that focus on innovation in design and production processes and the creation of products and systems able to:
-  Improve performance, reliability and safety;
-  Increase the physical and psychological well-being of consumers;
-  Guarantee maximum levels of usability and pleasure in use.
The aim is to integrate ergonomic knowledge and methodology into process design right from the initial conception of the product and throughout its entire development cycle, so as to guarantee its compliance with user needs and expectations.

Areas of intervention:
Assessment of product and system usability
Outlining innovative concept briefs
Development of guidelines for the design of:
Products, equipment and services
Interface systems and control panels
Work and domestic environments
Packaging systems
Environments and objects for weak users
Product comparison
Training
Targeted research

Thanks to collaboration with other technical labs in the Politecnico di Milano, the PUL has activated a multidisciplinary skills network able to guarantee specialized support.
The PUL works both for the various operative sectors of the University and for external bodies and companies.
