Where you can do an internship?
In Italy as well as abroad at studios, companies, agencies, associations, university labs and research units (only curricular internships) and also during international exchange programs. Structures must be affiliated with Politecnico di Milano and students can choose among already existing partnerships or select new ones.
Additionally, the Erasmus Placement program allows to intern in one of Politecnico European partner Universities with a scholarship.

What are the activation processes?
The reference office for compulsory or optional internships is RAP (before graduation), for graduates internships, Erasmus Placement program or information about scholarships the reference is Career Service.
Activating the internship is easy but requires a reasonable advance in order to have all documents ready before starting it.
Students submit (using institutional email name.surname@mail.polimi.it) to RAP (rap@ceda.polimi.it ) the following information:
• Student data (name, university ID number, degree course)
• Company data (name, VAT number)
• Company responsible (tutor name, e-mail)
• Type of internship (compulsory, optional, internal, in Italy, abroad)
If the company has not an agreement with Politecnico, RAP will provide students with the documentation and procedures to formalize it. Otherwise the company is invited to insert the training project on line and the students will be sent the contract (“Progetto formativo”) to be printed in three copies and signed by the student, the academic tutor and the company tutor and held back to RAP.
For compulsory internships the academic tutor is automatically assigned, while for optional internships he needs to be selected by the student.

Is it possible to intern abroad?
Of course, everywhere in the world. The activation process is the same whether the company is in Italy or abroad. Alternatively it is possible to participate to the Erasmus Placement program (through Career Service) that allows to do a scholarship paid internship abroad at one of the Politecnico partner universities.
To activate an internship during an exchange program, students must operate through the hosting university procedures. On the contrary, if the company hasn’t an agreement with the hosting university, students must contact RAP and follow standard activation procedures.

Where can I find the list of the Politecnico partner companies?
The companies list is not available because partner companies are registered on the career service website and the offers are published according their needs.

How can I know if the company has already an agreement with the Politecnico?
Indicate by email to the Rap office the name and the Vat number of the company.

Does the internship project includes insurance coverage?
Yes, for this reason it is compulsory to activate the internship, handling to the RAP office the signed project before the beginning of the internship period.

Who’s competent for the internship insurance coverage?
Politecnico is responsible for the insurance cover of injuries and public-liability.

What are the expenses that a new company must incur to become a partner of Politecnico?
To be agreed, the new structure has to pay 4 taxes stamps of € 16,00.

In terms of hours, how long is an internship?
Compulsory internships can last from a minimum of 250 hours (in companies without employees) to a maximum of 375 hours (if in companies there is at least one employee). For extensions it is necessary to activate a new optional internship that has a duration of 12 months at the most.
Optional internships can last from 90 hours up to 12 months.

Can I extend a compulsory internship?
It is possible to extend the curricular internship if the student have not reached the 250 hours. It is also possible activated a subsequent optional internship with an overall duration of 250 hours (compulsory+ non compulsory)

Can I suspend the internship?
Yes , only for serious reasons and prior to direct communication with RAP. In case you haven’t reached the minimum amount of hours for the compulsory internship, it is necessary to start a new one for at least 250 hours.

I would like my job to be recognized, what must I do?
You should write to the RAP and request clarification in the specific case: rap@ceda.polimi.it

I have been offered the possibility of doing my internship from home/online. Can I accept?
No. The placement must be carried out in a working environment. You must have your own work station, company computer, available tutor etc.

The company tutor has changed, the company is moving, i need to travel, the training plan has been modified…what should I do?
Contact and inform the RAP office by email (rap@ceda.polimi.it) of any changes in the “training plan”

Can work placements undertaken previously, or already started, be acknowledged as valid?
No. In the absence of a Training Plan, there is no insurance cover.

Can I replace the third year workshop with an internship?
Third year workshop can be replaced with other extra-curricular formative activities that need to be activated through RAP office. The application for the replacement must be presented before the beginning of the extra-curricular activity and before the semester in which the course to be validated takes place. Forms and procedures are to be asked via e-mail to RAP (rap@ceda.polimi.it).

The credit registration doesn’t appear on my career even if I met the academic tutor and sent all pdfs to RAP, what should I do?
Contact RAP office by email for checking.

With whom should I have the final meeting for the compulsory internship?
Students must contact the academic tutor they’ve been assigned according to their degree course.
Ask RAP (rap@ceda.polimi.it) for professors office hours.
Once the internship is over, students have 1 month to meet their academic tutor to be interviewed about their work during the internship. The required documentation is the following:
• Student evaluation form
• Company evaluation form
• Internship final report
• Forms are sent from RAP to their institutional e-mails.
