Abstract:
The thesis is a design research one and starts with a literature review of existing Small Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) energy system and sustainable best practices. This is followed by the Life Cycle Assessment of typical existing Small Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) energy system and by the identification of the environmental priorities among the 6 LCD criteria: 1. Material minimisation; 2. Energy minimization 3. Low impact resources selection; 4. Product life optimisation; 5. Material life extension; 6. Design for disassembly
Finally, the product-specific guidelines and priority indicators are defined.
The final result of the thesis is a handbook of guidelines and checklist to support and orientate the sustainable design of a Small Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) energy system. This could be a possible base and or contribution of a handbook to be developed by the LeNSes project.
The thesis is framed within the LeNSes – the Learning Network on Sustainable Energy Systems – project (2013-2016) funded by the EU Edulink II programme. www.lenses.polimi.it.
